Gender and the Work Environment

Businesswomen and the Entrepreneurial Spirit
Join us for a workshop exploring the entrepreneurial spirit. First, we will present a 1 ½ hour
seminar detailing the history of women in business, the current landscape and the future of
women as business leaders. Then, after a short break, we will rejoin to discuss
“entrepreneurial thought.” The workshop will end with a brief recap and a few final thoughts.

Seminar topics will include:
  • Early entrepreneurs, such as Mary Katherine Goddard, who printed the first
Declaration of Independence, and Eliza Lucas Pinckney, who introduced blue indigo
    dye into North America.
  • How entrepreneurial thinking can greatly benefit corporate decisions.
  • Contemporary women business leaders and the inventive and resourceful thinking they
    employ.
  • The future trends of businesswomen, both in corporate and entrepreneurial settings.

Discussion topics will include:
  • What qualities do women possess that will help them as entrepreneurs?
  • Is it possible to “learn” entrepreneurial thinking?
  • How can you foster creativity in the workplace?

Gender and the Work Environment
This workshop will investigate the role of gender in the workplace and how that affects
women’s rise to the top. First, we will present a 1 ½ hour seminar on what role gender plays
in the job force. Then, after a short break, we will regroup to discuss the affects of gender
norms and what women can do to challenge them. This workshop will conclude with a brief
recap and a few final thoughts.

Seminar topics will include:
  • The differences between the histories of men in business and women in business.
  • Whether the glass ceiling exists and if it affects businesswomen.
  • Contemporary business leaders, such as Andrea Jung, CEO of Avon, and Indra Nooyi,
CEO of PepsiCo, and what they have done to achieve their goals.
  • How “traditional” gender roles are changing and how that will affect the business
    community.

Discussion topics will include:
  • Do women contribute to perpetuating gender norms?
  • What are some of the common mistakes women make in the workplace?
  • How can women change certain patterns that contribute to workplace challenges?
  • What qualities do women possess that are well-suited to succeeding in business?
  • Colleges and Universities
  • High Schools
