women in entrepreneurship, as well as discussing the benefits and challenges associated with
owning and operating a business.

Bustles and Businesswomen

  • Without indigo dye (now made synthetically), blue jeans might not be so...blue.

This presentation discusses several notable women in business history and intertwines their
stories with a glimpse at the times in which they lived by intertwining women's history and the
history of fashion.

What to Expect as a Woman in the Job Force

  • Women currently represent 46% of the labor force.
  • Only 13 women hold CEO positions of Fortune 500 companies (2.6%)

Women face certain challenges while climbing up the corporate ladder. This interactive
presentation discusses the history of women in the labor force and addresses situations
women may encounter.

Garters and Government: Women in Politics and the Clothes The Wore
  • Belva Lockwood ran for U.S. President in 1884 under the Equal Rights party.
  • The invention of the wire hoop allowed women to shed five pounds of petticoats.

Garters and Government presents a unique blend of history and fashion, intertwining vignettes
of American women who accomplished "first-time" political goals with examples of original
period fashions. This seminar spans the late Victorian era through the 20th century and
describes the status of these women in politics
and in society, as evidenced by the clothes
they wore.
**This presentation is also available as a two-hour seminar**

72 Years for Change: The American Women's Suffrage Movement
  • The first women's rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, NY in 1848, 72 years
before the 19th Amendment was passed.
  • Only one woman who signed the "Declaration of Sentiments" in 1948 was alive when
women gained the right to vote.

The two most well-known suffragists are Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, but
hundreds of women throughout the country were instrumental in furthering the cause of
universal suffrage. This presentation discusses the key figures, the various ways they chose to
further their cause, and the challenges they faced.

The American Women's Suffrage Movement: The New Jersey Story
  • New Jersey is the only state whose original constitution that did not specifically
    exclude women from voting.
  • Alice Paul, who was influential in the passage of the 19th Amendment, was originally
    from Moorestown, NJ.

New Jersey was home to several of the key figures in the national campaign, as well as holding
its own unique suffrage history. This presentation looks specifically at New Jersey's suffrage
story, discussing the women who worked at the state level as well as those who were integral
to the national campaign.
**We offer a two-hour seminar that presents an in-depth look at both
New Jersey's and the national campaign**
